Spiritans take on another parish Southwark Diocese - 04/02/2012

The Spiritans, British Province, have been mandated by the Southwark Archdiocese to take over pastoral responsibility for Our Lady of Grace, Charlton.

Archbishop Kevin greets parishioners after Mass

The parish community had, in 2011, celebrated the centenary of the opening of their church.

Archbishop Kevin McDonald, former Archbishop of Southwark diocese, in his homily noted that although many of the parishioners were not originally from Charlton, the parish community was the basis of their ‘sense of belonging’. They had become ‘the living stones’ of the parish.

The community is highly acclaimed for its generosity of spirit, ecumenism and multicultural dynamics.

Fr. Uche Njoku, who was formerly the parish priest of St. Philip Neri, Smethwick, Sandwell has taken over pastoral responsibilities of Our Lady of Grace as the parish priest. He is assisted by Fr. Michael Emenike Ezenwammadu, who is also a priest chaplain to Christ the King Sixth Form College, Belmont Grove, Lewisham, London. They form the Spiritan community in Charlton.
