Just Youth is a Christian organisation set up and supported by a Catholic religious order-the Spiritans. Just Youth was set up as an independent charity in 1998 to develop this work. Sharing in the work and joining in with all aspects of community life is part of the experience. The global dimension of the work of the Spiritans will offer opportunities for personal development and involvement. The aim of Just Youth is to help young people, especially but not exclusively, through formal and informal educational activities, so to develop their social, spiritual and intellectual potential that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society.Just Youth carries out its' aims by engaging young people to work with their peers to examine issues around the themes of justice and equality.
Just Youth has a philosophy that seeks to make young people aware of issues of justice at both a local and global level. Such justice begins with encouraging their awareness of their own situations, how they relate to others and how they share responsibility for how people are treated. This enhanced understanding of global responsibility introduces issues of development and justice, seeking to serve the most marginalised in society and invites young people to involve themselves in this process. The voluntary year runs from September to August and involves living in a community in Salford, working in a team, running day retreat programmes for young people and serving the local community. Volunteers will develop a range of social and youth work skills and will explore issues around justice, equality, relationships and self-awareness. Just Youth |
